Qnexa Review

QnexaQnexa is the soon to be released prescription diet pill made by Vivus. It is touted as a weight loss/diabetes aid. Although there is much hype regarding its release, we are skeptical. Prescription weight loss pills can be effective but usually are laced with so many side effects and with such a high price tag that we wonder why any one in their right mind would purchase them. Is Qnexa any different? Even though it looks like Qnexa will get FDA approved in late 2010, FDA approvals don’t mean to us for two reasons:

  1. Just because a weight loss product is FDA approved does not mean that it works. Don’t believe us? Try some of the dozens of prescription weight loss pills approved by the FDA and see if you lose any weight.
  2. FDA approvals don’t always ensure safety. Example: Fen Phen. Fen Phen was approved by the FDA for years…until it was found to lead to severe heart problems and death. Even though Qnexa may be approved now, who knows what side effects will pop up in a few years. Prescription diet pills generally have worse and more severe side effects than all-natural alternatives.

Let’s take a closer look at Qnexa

Qnexa Ingredients

There are two ingredients in Qnexa:

  • Phentermine
  • Topiramate

Phentermine. Phentermine is made for the over-eaters. It is an appetite suppressant. Phentermine works by tricking your brain into thinking it is full. Clinical studies suggest that it can lead to weight loss but do not expect anything too significant. It has been around for years and although it does contain some side effects, none of them are life-threatening.

Topiramate. Topiramate is the big question mark in Qnexa. There are no credible scientific studies or evidence that links Topiramate’s ability to help you lose weight. Topiramate is usually used to treat epilepsy, alchoholism, or bi-polar disorders.

Qnexa Research

We love clinical studies. They help separate the effective products from the pretenders. There was a clinical study conducted on Qnexa that purportedly showed its ability to help with weight loss but more information about the study needs to be disclosed before we give it much credence. According to the clinical study on Qnexa, the most common side effects are headaches, dry mouth, constipation, altered taste, and nausea.

Qnexa Side Effects

Side effects associated with Phentermine include:

  • insomnia
  • hyperactivity
  • restlessness
  • dizziness
  • dysphoria
  • dry mouth
  • unpleasant taste
  • diarrhea
  • constipation
  • various sexual problems

Common side effects of Topiramate include:

  • parasthesisa
  • upper respiratory tract infection
  • diarrhea
  • nausea
  • anorexia
  • memory problems
  • fatigue
  • depression
  • agitation
  • speech problems
  • loss on consciousness
  • nausea and vomiting
  • muscle weakness
  • bone pain

Qnexa Price and Return Policy

How much will Qnexa cost? There is no way of knowing. Phentermine prescription pills cost around $100, so expect to pay at least $150 (plus the cost of the doctor’s visits to get the prescription and the follow-up visits). One thing is for sure, there will be no money back guarantee (guarantees are non-existent for prescription diet pills)

Overall Value

At the present time there are too many question marks regarding its effectiveness and safety. Combine this with its probable high price and Qnexa is a risky purchase.
