Alli

Does Alli Work?

It’s probably a more effective colon cleanser than weight loss supplement. I’m sure you’ve read about the stinky side effects: explosive diarrhea and oily discharge. Alli is proven to help you lose 1 lb a month. Big deal.

How Does Alli Work?

Orlistat (main ingredient) helps reduce caloric intake by inhibiting the absorption of fat in the body.  It hinders an enzyme in the pancreas from breaking down triglycerides in the intestine, thus preventing fats from being absorbed. Where does all of the unabsorbed fat go? It leaks out of your you-know-what and all of your khakis. In fact, Alli even recommends that you carry an extra change of clothes with you at all times!

Alli Side Effects

Probably the biggest drawback to Alli is the undesirable side effects that are pretty much unavoidable.  Extremely loose, uncontrolled bowel movements and flatulence seem to be very common and prove to be embarrassing to most users.  Those nasty experiences just don’t seem worth the one pound of weight lost during the month!  Over half of the testimonials we have read claim that it is definitely a below average product that is overpriced and ¾ claim to have experienced a disagreeable stomach and uninvited leakage. The repeat positive comment we read is that it is available at basic stores such as Wal-Mart.

Alli Pros

  • Available at Costco, Walmart
  • Informative website

Alli Cons

  • Awful side effects – explosive diarrhea – NO THANKS!
  • Inconvenient – who wants to carry an extra pair of pants?
  • No money back guarantee – where’s the confidence?
  • Only 1lb of weight loss a month
  • Expensive

Alli Conclusion

I don’t recommend Alli to anybody. Trust me, I’ve taken it, experienced the nasty side effects and didn’t lose 1 pound. It’s not even close to being one of our top 3 Weight Loss Pills.

I STARTED TAKING ALLI 2 DAYS AGO LETS SEE WHAT HAPPENS

  • Anonymous

Started Alli almost 2 weeks ago, first week lost 2lbs doesn’t seem like much but feel so much better. No side effects here, my bowels are more regular.

Will keep using until I finish my first bottle then will see if I want to invest in my next bottle.

  • Aianah

Thanks, y’all, for reminding me that well being doesn’t come out of a bottle.

Eating better and getting yourself moving improves your health and weight- and for those of you exercising and not losing weight, muscle weighs more than fat…so you may be trimming down and not even realizing it!

I picked this product up in the store this evening. Read the back and put it back down and looked it up on the web.

eating fat doesn’t make you fat. It will clog your arteries…but grains and sugars is what packs on the pounds.

  • DeeDee

I have been on alli for almost 3 months. I think its a great product as long as you eat what you are sappossed to eat and you dont go over the amount of fat grams you are to have, you will not have those treatment effects. I only experienced one time where I had oily stool and thats because I ate to much fat. I exercise and eat right and lost 20lbs so far. They are kind of pricey but to be beauty cost money. I will continue to use this product I have about 40-50 more pounds I want to loose. My goal is to get in that 2 piece bikini by July.

  • snugglygirl2

I am only a few pounds over my ideal weight but because I am lazy I wanted to take Alli. Because of all your experiences I will work out and eat right instead…but the comments are hilarious. Thanks for the belly laughs!

  • don

I WOULD LIKE TO BUY SOME ALLI ! CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE BEST PLACE ?

  • Michelle

I like how the pills this site recommends are all over $100. Sounds a bit scam-ish to me! But I can imagine if you are serious about losing weight, then the fear of uncontrollable bowels will make you eat right. I’m trying to lose some weight too. I went to get sized for a wedding dress today and I measured in at a size 10! I almost died. =(

  • GOOD RESULTS

i’ve been taking allie for only 1 week and so far I have lost 5 pounds. It makes me watch what i eat and I am eating healthier than ever before. You won’t have stinky poop problems in your pants if you follow the directions and stay on a LOW FAT DIET! It does work!

  • Lori

these side effects scare me. i dont think im gonna try this pill

  • I’ll give it a try!

I am glad I went on this website before I bought it. Definitely will give it a try… I eat semi healthy, exercise regularly, but can’t loose any weight. Maybe Alli is that little help I need.

  • Dorothy Shanstrom

My doctor told to to try this medicine because I hace many medical problems and this is the only medicine that will be good for me. I am glad for it. I want to know how to order it.

  • meme

for alli to work you have to eat low fat foods and do some keep fit, up the gym running , walking, it is not a magic pill , its all about a life style change. if you want to eat crap and sit around you will not get that weight off. the drug in alli is usualy on perscription, but from next month in the uk if you go to a pharmacy you will be able to buy it. it is for peole with a ibm of over 28. this product will work BUT ONLY IF YOU FOLLOW THE ADVICE GIVEN . it will not happen over night and you will have the eat the right foods and get of you butt,s

  • Ericca

I began using Alli last September. I had great results from it, but in order to lose weight you have to follow the guidelines. You do have to change your eating habits also. You can’t just eat normally with it and expext to lose weight! You’ll just end up crapping your pants and that’s about it. I was losing about 4 pounds a week when I first started Alli. Before I started using it I was only losing about 2 pounds a week before with just diet and exercise. I lost 30 pounds with it. I went from 160 pounds to 130 pounds. So it does work along with dieting. I never had results like that with any other diet pill.

  • Nicky

I have been using alli for six months and lost over 20 pounds and kept them off. The thing with ally is that it is not a “miracle pill” you’ll still have to diet and excersise but it will help you loose more weight than with dieting alone. The side effects only come from eating extremely fatty food which you should avoid anyways!!!!! Alli helps you create better eating habits, because the “side effects” let you know when you are making wrong food choices. If you are looking for something more than a easy way out and are planning on healthy changes that you want to stick to for life then I think alli is for you.

  • Trish

I have taken Alli and in 3 months I lost 30 pounds and droped one size. i ate right and had NO “explosive diarrhea” and uncontrolable bowls. I dont know what you all were doing but Alli did help me and knowing that i could have bowl problems kept me eating right and avoiding these side effects. I could not afford Alli for a while though and am now back on it. Ive read some of your comments about being on it for 4 days and not losing anything. Youve gotta be patient, its not a miracle pill. your not gotta just lose weight like its nothing, it still takes time. AND its FDA approved unlike all these others, which means something to me because I work in the medicine industry and I know how important FDA approval is! I will continue to take Alli and lose weight, unlike all you skeptics out there!

  • no results

I have taken this junk for 36 days, although no accidents, because I don’t eat higher fat anyways,Ihave had no weight loss, don’t waste ur money!

  • KATHY

IVE BEEN ON ALLI FOR 2 WEEKS NOW HAVENT LOST NOTHING AND I HAVENT GONE TO THE BATH ROOM . I HAD TO TAKE EXLAX CAUSE IT MADE MT STOMACK SO HARD. ALLI DOES NOT WORK

  • New User

Started Alli, loved it. If you don’t eat greasy foods and lower your fat intake, you will not have any “problems or side effects” – doesn’t make you gittery. Just makes you rethink your eating habits. I don’t eat fast food ever, so if you are eating fast food and it’s greasy, you will have a problem. Cook healthy.

  • dawn

just started taking Alli two days ago, i have already realized not to eat to much fat.I’m really excited that it works. so please stop knocking the product if your too lazy to exercise and watch what you eat. I’ve been working out for a month now and I hope this works for me while i do the workouts.

  • English Cherry

If anyone is fed up with their Alli, I’d be happy to take it off your hands! Trust me, it’s a LOT more expensive here in the UK, but I’m determined to start it by the end of this month. I have already started my low fat diet and lost 10lbs. I’m walking 4 days a week as exercise. I’m confident Alli will help me bind up some of the fat in my main meal of the day, and keep me honest (as previous posters have said). Good luck to all those following instrustions and losing weight x

  • Pam

A friend of mine and I started Alli 5 weeks ago, we love it. I have lost 26 pounds and she 15 pounds. We have not had any problems or side effects. I have spent lots and lots of money on every other diet. This product has been the least expensive for me. If you don’t control the fat intake and start to cook right then so sorry for you.

  • Pam

Has anyone using this been experiencing back pain as a result? I am just curious because a friend of mine’s sister used this a year ago. Had good success but started having stomach problems in April. Removed her gallbladder then in June diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Passed away in November 2008. Just nervous because I started experiencing pain in my back that by Web MD may be pancreatis and have only been taking this 8 days. Is there any links with this to pancreatic cancer?

  • Christ Child

Mr doctor gave me a sample stater kit of the Alli diet pill which I found to work very well I had a problem with the treatment side effect maybe once and that day I had greasy food for dinner.other then that I never had a problem and I work out daily at the gym I have lost 32 pounds In two months. I no I could have lost more by now but I ran out of my Alli and have been on them for about a month. but will be getting back on them soon Alli works great!!!!

  • Annie

I have been using Alli for 4 months now.Alli works for me and since I’m watching my diet I have lost some weight,I don’t know how much exactly, cause I havn’t weight myself, but sure people around me who don’t see me very often notice the difference. The first week when I started alli, I had some side effects, but then I just started making better choices, and watched how much fat my food contains.I don’t take alli with very greecy foods when I know i’ll be out for a while,to avoid the side effect.Overall it’s great, and I’ll be using it,this is the only product that I trust using, cause it’s FDA approved!!

  • Vero

The “nasty” side effects are completely exaggerated on this page. if you experience “nasty” side effect then quit binging on greasy food. You are trying to reduce your weight, not sit at McDonalds ant think that a pill can do all of the work for you. Add diet modification. This pill works fabulously, I am 40 pounds lighter!

  • Chris

29 year old male here. Didn’t change my eating habits too much on Alli other than eating a SERVING bowl full of salad every day with a dash of lemon, olive oil and vinegar. I know vegetables stimulate weight loss.

At first, I was really strict with the low fat thing. (about 10 days). Then I said screw it. I eat normal but my stomach has shrunk so I get fuller much faster. I can eat chocolate, ice cream, fried food, you name it and no side effects. Maybe I’m lucky. Yes, there are some times I have to RUSH to the bathroom but it’s usually after a full day. Never had anything uncontrollable.

I am 6 ft…was 247 about a month ago and dropped 10 pounds to 237/238. I can really feel the difference in my cloths and it feels GREAT! I didn’t expect this to be quick. I got fat over 5 years… why would the fat just suddenly disappear? At this rate, in 6 or 8 months I’ll be at my ideal weight. Maybe a year since I know there will be a plateau somewhere in that time.

I do manual labor (carpet steam cleaning) so I get a good deal of exercise. But I’ve been doing this for 10 years.

Weight loss really isn’t as hard as people want to make it out to be. It’s simple really. Stop supersizing your fries. Eat one scoop of Baskin Robbins low calorie chocolate ice cream instead of two scoops of regular (it actually tastes BETTER than the regular), eat a serving bowl of salad every day, throw out the last couple of bites of your burger, use mustard instead of mayo… stuff life that. Eat a whole vegetable before eating a meal and you’ll see you’ll get fuller faster. Chew every bite of your food dozens of times (also helps digestion) and I can go on and on. Another one, skip the soda once in a while and get water.

If you cut out EVERYTHING you love, you’ll go crazy. If you simply eat less of it at each meal, your stomach will shrink (inside) and you’ll get fuller quicker.

But some of these comments are ridiculous! “I’ve been using Alli for 4 days and haven’t seen results”. Seriously?? FOUR DAYS! Wow! Eat a gallon of ice cream everyday and it will take more than 4 days to see the weight gain. Why would it take 4 days to lose weight?

And if Alli is giving you bad side effects then you probably should cut whatever it is you’re eating because it’s WAY too much fat.

  • newgirl

I started taking Alli on Sat morning, I am on my 8th pill and I have had NO side effects. Perhaps a tiny bit of stomich gurggling, but nothing else…my bathroom activities have not changed in the slightest.

I have been eating super healthy and have not had any high fat meals….but I am worried, no pain, no gain?

Time will tell- but I feel like it is doing nothing!

  • Linda

I’ve been taking the Alli and I’ve lost 8 lbs so far. Treatment affects are not a problem if you follow the plan correctly. It tells you how many fat grams per meal that you can have based upon your personal body info. If you go over that then yes you will get treatment affects. Taking Alli doesn’t mean you can continue to eat anything and everything you want. You have to limit your fat grams to avoid the treatment affects. Getting the treatment affects serves as a reminder to you that you’ve gone over the recommended amount of fat.

  • Dr Gio

Most of the people on here think that they can take a pill and it will solve all they’re fat issues… Wrong.. Although this pill can have very bad side effects, the point it to completly change your style of eating.. Dont take the pill then have a hamburger after!!! My opinion on taking these pills is take them while on a good easy diet for example weight watchers goes hand and hand with this pill. Eat over your points and you are not going to have a great day, but stay with in your points and you will notice nothing but loss of hunger.. COme on people. lets stop thinking a pill and just a pill with solve all of our issues.. its called work and commitment

  • co-worker

A co-worker of mine lost 40 pounds on the Alli diet plan and not once did I ever witness her running back and forth to the restroom nor did I ever see her chage her clothes in the middle of the day. The problem is you must have self controll in order to see postive results and not negative side effects you must follow the diet as instructed. It appears to me that she made an excellent investment because she looks amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Karen S.

    Hi Everyone,

I just started Alli about a week ago. My doctor told me about it. She did mentioned the accidents that may happen, but if i excercise and followed the plan,it’ll work for me. I thought, that’s a lot of money for a diet pill!!…it better do something!!!. I went on and bought it,but didn’t have much faith in it at the beginning until one day i found my pants feeling loose around the waist. I was like…What Da??!!!!. That instant i thought,oh my god!!!…i’m LOSING WEIGHT!!!!. Alli!!!Alli!!!Alli!!!. So i say to you that have little faith about it,stick with it,follow through with the plan and please be patient, the outcome will be REWARDING!!!!. Yes!,it’s going to take some time, but WE CAN DO IT!!!…YES WE CAN!!!!…:o) So lets STOP COMPLAINING!!!…and hold each other hands for STRENGTH. So stop reading my COMMENT!and lets get BUSY!!!!… Keep Smiling and BE BLESS!…:o)

  • SILPADA

MY MOM USED ALLI FOR IN FEW MONTHS, SHE HAD LOSE SOME WEIGHT, I M WORRIED ABOUT HER, IS IT SAFE. • LC

I do not believe some of the things people are saying about Alli, people should always read information about a product before purchasing it. I started Alli in Febuary 2009, and in 2 months with a good meal plan and proper exercise, I have lost 7 pounds. Also, it is the only one I have found that is FDA approved. In reading about this product “IF PEOPLE WOULD ONLY READ IT” it will tell you about the effects of the Alli. It really is a disciplinary to keep you on the right track to stay on a healthy diet and exercise plan. Alli does not make you nervous and it is not habit forming, after a few months once you have learned to keep on a healthy diet and exercise plan, you can stop taking Alli all together. When someone does make up their mind to lose weight, you have to keep a positive attitude about it and when you do make up your mind to lose weight do it for yourself first and foremost! Also, I should add, having a clean colon is really a good thing! I work in Out Patient Surgery, where we do colonoscopy’s daily and you really would’nt believe the stuff we see. If some of you only knew, therefore, remember a clean colon is a health colon and eating right and exercising is the key. Even if you have to use a product like alli (one that is safe) to help you along.

  • kathleen

ALLI WORKS, my husband and I have been taking it for two months and are losing an average of 2lbs. per week.

YOU WILL NOT HAVE SIDE EFFECTS IF YOU EAT RIGHT. We find it very easy to stay with-in our fat limits by following the ALLI MEAL PLAN and neither of us have had any “accidents”.

The ALLI recipes are easy and delicious, and will prevent side effects. The website plans meals for you and even gives you a printable shopping list. Lots of fresh fruit and veggies and lean meats and even snacks that help cravings.

We are eating more and losing weight at the same time.

I highly recommend ALLI for people who can be sensible enough to follow the directions.

  • kathleen

Alli teaches you to eat right so that you can maintain a healthy diet when you have reached your weight-loss goal and keep it off without the pill. Lifestyle changes are a must. Withour eating right and exercise nothing will worrk for you.

  • JD

If you are questioning whether to take this pill or not, save your money. I gained weight and felt absolutely horrible and I could feel myself gaining the weight!!!!

  • Lizzie

The biggest issue for me when I began the Alli program 2 weeks ago is that it is the ONLY over-the-counter weight loss pill that is approved by the FDA. Add to this the fact that Dr. Caroline Apovian, my doctor in Boston many years ago, wrote the book, I felt totally committed to following the program. I have lost 6.5 lbs. in two weeks, have had no problem whatsoever. I highly recommend this program. Followed closely, it WILL WORK.

  • Jane Cohrs

alli alli alli….. i looovvvvveeeeee it!!!!! listen people dont judge a book by its cover you have to read it first, lol… alli is a good deit pill for me i didnt change my deit at first and yes i had the TREATMENT EFFECTS guess what i did changed my deit to more healthy foods its great i cant live without it i was on it for a month and lost 15lbs i got off for two months and still losing weight with deit and working out that is……. dont go off what others say do what you feel thats what i did and i love it

  • dolly p

WOW, look at all info you all have given. Yes it works,,but, you have to understand how it works. I like the idea of “if I eat the wrong stuff, It lets me know by expelling the fat” So now when I reach for bacon or deep fried foods,(which I love) I know within a few hours I will be reminded that I ate the wrong stuff. Better than fooling yourself and thinking you can eat light fat and there are freebees. I am loosing in areas that I can measure and have to remember the less fat I eat the less oil I get rid of.

  • karol

WELL I TRIED ALLI AND IT WORKS THATS THE THING YOU NEED TO READ THE BOOKS!!! AND EAT THE THIGS THAT THE BOOKS SAID. I LOSS 10 POUDS. STOP HETHING JUNK FOOD AND EXECIDE. THE PILL IS NOT GOING TO THE EVERTHING,

  • robin

i tried ali for a week and lost 2 pounds, i was already watching my fat intake and had no side effects, i thought i would lose more, stopped taking it, the best diet is to eat less and excercise and self control

  • Bev S

Taking Alli made me think twice about eating a greasy, fatty cheeseburger (although I really wanted it) and I lost 43 pounds in 4 months, just by changing my eating habits! I did exercise here and there, but nothing too strenous. I went from a 14/16 to a size 6! It does work if you follow the plan and watch the fat. I craved pizza one night…took the pill and overate with 3 pieces and ……..yes, two days later I paid for it. never did that again and learned my lesson. But Alli DOES work!

  • MARIA QUEZADA

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN I AM SO SOORY TO TELL YOU THIS BUT THE ALLI PILLS DOSE REALLY WORK TO ME I WAS AT 513LBS AND SO FAR I LOST 278IBS AND AM SO HAPPY FOR THE ALLI PILLS I WOULD NEVER LOST SO MUCH WEIGHT WITH OUT THE PILLS THANK YOU ALLI PILLS

  • vanessa

u have to always remeber that when taking any diet pill that u must ex an eat rite any die pill will work it is a mind thing go for it

  • Emma

I used Alli for 2 months and i lost 22 pounds, it’s about eating right and exercise.

  • els

I think the problem with Alli is that it is not the pill that makes you lose weight, it is the exercising and the diet or healthy eating. If you take Alli away and just do the exercising and healthy eating you will lose the same amount of weight. All Alli does, is like a “poo” booster which means it helps you go to the toilet daily. For those who don’t follow a healthy lifestyle or exercise they will get the diarrhea symptoms that people describe. So, is Alli worth the price tag? No, just stick to the healthy diet and exercise and buy a box of tablets that help you go to the toilet naturally – much cheaper.
